Once again LSU and Alabama showed they are not only the best teams in the SEC, they showed they are the best teams in the nation that aren’t from of Oklahoma.

1. Alabama: Alabama gets my nod again this week after bringing Vandy down to earth. This week Bama visits Ole Miss for a beat down of the bears.

2. LSU: LSU had no problem with Florida’s speed. This weekend they travel to Tennessee to cook old smokey like a Filipino has a tailgate party.

3. Arkansas: Auburn stays in the middle of the pack after getting beaten by the razorbacks. Arkansas has a week off before the visit Ole Miss for a little bear hunting.

4. Georgia: Tennessee was easy, how easy you ask. As easy as getting a date on the strip in Vegas. This week they travel back to Tennessee where Vandys defense will look better than Tennessee’s did.

5. Auburn: After playing good at SC the old eagle couldn’t get it up against LSU. A little gator bait will be just what the eagle orders.

6. Florida: Alabama made gator hash in the second half in the swamp two weeks and the Tiger ran down the gator last week. This week its the gators at home.

7. Mississippi State: UAB didn’t give them a game. Expect SC to take them this weekend.

8. South Carolina: Kentucky didn’t get anything done to improve their cellar. Visiting SC should be a little harder.

9. Tennessee: Georgia visited them Saturday and knocked Tennessee out of a chance to win the east. With LSU coming in this weekend all those freshmen are going to get their second taste of big time SEC football.

10. Vanderbilt: Bama showed Vandy that they need an offense to go with a never quit defense. A trip to Georgia will give their secondary a chance to shine.

11. Ole Miss: Bama bound this weekend will give the ole bears another loss.

12. Kentucky: The defense tried hard but ran out of gas chasing a gamecock the whole game. The worst offense in the nation, you betcha. Will a week off before a 4-1 Jacksonville St visits help? You betcha not.

LSU and Alabama showed they are not only the best teams in the SEC, they showed they are the best teams in the nation

1. Alabama: Alabama gets my nod again this week after a dominating performance over Florida. This week Vandy who is beginning to show they are a low cal offensive team visits.

2. LSU: LSU is sitting at #2 because they beat Kentucky. As much as so many writers are ranking them #1 they look like #2. This week they get a low cal Brantley free Florida at home.

3. Arkansas: Their come back over future SEC team Texas A&M is good enough to keep them #3. Next weekend an Auburn team who seems to be getting it together. How together will be seen Saturday.

4. Georgia: Miss St was easy. This week they travel to Tennessee where the passing game could give them fits.

5. Auburn: Making SC look bad is the best they have played this year. Arkansas will be a challenge for a better looking Auburn defense.

6. Florida: Alabama made gator hash in the second half in the swamp. With LSU up this weekend I’m forced to change my tune about Florida winning the east.

7. Mississippi State: Georgia got them. Will UAB give them a game?

8. South Carolina: Auburn embarrassed them at home. This week they get to roast Kentucky marshmallows at home

9. Tennessee: Buffalo stunk which is just what Tennessee needed before Georgia visits them Saturday for a game that will be for the lead in the east.

10. Vanderbilt: They had a week off before visiting Alabama.

11. Ole Miss: My upset pick of the week didn’t pan out but neither did most of my picks. They have a week off to prepare for a trip to Alabama.

12. Kentucky: The defense played a good enough game but once again the offense failed to shine and you need a light if your going to spend the rest of the year in the cellar.

LSU and Alabama showed they are not only the best teams in the SEC, they showed they are the best teams in the nation

1. Alabama: Alabama gets my nod as #1 this week after a dominating performance over Arkansas. Next up they visit #12 Florida where they will attempt to slow down the fastest pair of backs I’ve ever seen.

2. LSU: LSU is sitting at #2 because they gave up 463 yds passing to W Va. and Alabama gave up only 209 yds to Arkansas. This week they get to practice against Kentucky.

3. Arkansas: I’m keeping Arkansas ranked #3 simply because Alabama will make them look better after beating Florida at Florida.

4. Florida: Still undefeated after having no problem with Kentucky. There is probably little chance of beating Alabama this weekend but upsets are known to happen.

5. Georgia: Beating Ole Miss doesn’t deserve to be moved up two spots but neither Miss St or S Carolina looked as good. Getting Miss St at home will help decide who is going to win the East.

6. Mississippi State: Told you they should be worried about Louisiana Tech. The WAC has come close to surprising a couple of SEC teams this year, but Georgia should be able to handle them.

7. Auburn: Beating FAU point wise is all it takes to win. Come on though they almost allowed FAU to out gain them yardage wise. Visiting S Carolina won’t help their fans feel good this week.

8. South Carolina: The defense had no problem with Vandy, but Vandys defense made Spurrier look like a QB guru. Rumor has it that the NCAA has granted another year of eligibility to Spurrier so expect SC to beat Auburn.

9. Tennessee: No game is a good way to keep the Tennessee fans happy. Up next is really low scoring Buffalo team.

10. Vanderbilt: If they had a fair offense their loss to SC wouldn’t have hurt as much. They have a week off before they visit Alabama.

11. Kentucky: Florida acted just like a stepsister who wouldn’t let Kentucky borrow the pumpkin. With a trip to LSU up next its going to be hard to get the shoe on. As I said last week, “Don’t expect to see perfection and pray not to see ugly.”

12. Ole Miss: A loss to Georgia probably didn’t do Nutts job security any good but a Loss at Fresno St might spell his end as a coach in the SEC. My upset pick of the week.

Once again I have to go with LSU as #1 this week. Things can change this weekend. We could have either Alabama or Arkansas taking the top spot away from LSU.

1. LSU: Shutting down Miss St in an easy win keeps them at the top this week. Even with a win, a poor showing at W Va will give the winner of the Arkansas at Alabama game a shot at #1.

2. Alabama: Winning an intramural game against North Texas gave them a chance to play more defensive backs. That can only help them with Arkansas.

3. Arkansas: Visiting Alabama this week Arkansas will test Alabama’s defense for the first time this year.

4. Florida: Still undefeated after having little problem with Tennessee. They should have even less of a problem with a Kentucky team that drives down the field like a Yugo.

5. Mississippi State: LSU had no problem and with a WAC team that took Houston to the wire up this week, they better not look past Louisiana Tech to Georgia.

6. South Carolina: Holding on to beat Navy keeps them in the middle of the pack. Vandy comes to town this weekend in what could be an interesting game.

7. Georgia: Once again they get a win this week to keep them from following the yellow brick road to a losing season.

8. Auburn: Over rated or under rated. It depends on if you are talking about Auburn or Clemson. Auburn finally did what I’ve expected, they lost.

9. Tennessee: No running game, losing a good receiver and a mediocre defense puts them here

10. Vanderbilt: 3-0 this can’t be the Vandy we have all come to know and love. A visit to SC will let us know if they are for real.

11. Kentucky: Ugly is as ugly does and the Cats played the ugliest game I’ve ever seen them play. With a beatable Florida visiting the Cats have a chance to right the ship with a perfect game. Don’t expect perfection though, and pray not to see ugly.

12. Ole Miss: In a game of 1-2 teams Georgia visits Ole Miss in a critical game for both teams. My guess is that Ole Miss gets spanked even at home.

Here is our first SEC Rankings. Most writers I’ve read so far rank us 11th ahead of only Vandy but not us here at BigBlueRules.

1. Alabama: The Tide are hard to pick against. As I said in our top 25 picks they are as complete a team as there is in the country and should be able to plug and play any skill positions they lost.

2. LSU: I have the feeling that there is more trouble around the corner for them. The game is played on the field not in writers minds so its still worth ranking them #2.

3. Arkansas: Losing Knile Davis for the season will hurt but the Hogs are the best offensive team in the SEC. Tyler Wilson has the receivers he needs and the Hog’s have the best defense they have had under Petrino.

4. Mississippi State: A good offense and a good defense will get you ranked higher than a bad one will.

5. Georgia: This team could go either way in a ranking. Expect them to start 0-2 and struggle all year.

6. Florida: My pic to win the east

7. South Carolina: Garcia. Nothing more to say.

8. Tennessee: Young but athletic. The Vols finished the season strong ans should surprise someone in the east this year.

9. Kentucky: Right where they should be from a Kentucky fans view. There is enough speed on this team that if Newton plays good they will be playing in a better bowl this year.

10. Auburn: Cam carried this team last year. They lost a lot and should have a hard time on the road this year.

11. Ole Miss: With questions at almost every position don’t expect a lot from them.

12. Vanderbilt: They are returning a lot of starters so its not out of the realm of possibility for them to win 5 games this year.

The SEC is Alabama and who? Arkansas, LSU or South Carolina? The drop off is even more severe once you move past the top three or four.

This week two and possibly three SEC teams will lose their first game of the year. Don’t expect anyone to drop out of the top 25 with a lose though.

1. Alabama: We’re back! With Mark Ingram and Marcell Dareus back Alabama has gone from scary to scarier. Some are expecting a game with Arkansas to materialize this weekend. Not this poster.

2. Arkansas: Ryan Mallett pulled one out against Georgia but Alabama isn’t Georgia. If the hog’s defense magically becomes endowed beyond their wildest dreams it could be a game.

3. South Carolina: On the road at Auburn will give the old balls coach heartburn but South Carolinas defense is better than Clemson’s.

4. LSU: The LSU defense looks ready to take anyone on. Now if they only had a SEC worthy offense. Expect W Virginia to give the Tigers a game.

5. Auburn: Can Auburn’s defense control the SC offensive paper juggernaut? Expect a low scoring game.

6. Florida: The Gators offense looks pedestrian at the best but speed is speed. Kentucky is a lot faster than past Kentucky teams but the defense is still suspect.

7. Kentucky: Joker gets his first shot at the Gators who looked beatable again at Tennessee. Kentucky can win this one but it wont be easy.

8. Georgia: Talent and way to much coffee this morning gets the Dawgs ranked this high. If Georgia loses at Mississippi State this coming weekend say adios to Mark Ritch.

9. Vanderbilt: Turnovers propelled a improving Vandy to a road win. Being off till Oct. 2nd will give the cellar teams a chance to sort themselves out.

10a. Tennessee: Tennessee gets ranked 10a rather than 10b because they showed some spunk against the Gators. Its still going to be a long year. Look for UAB to give the Vol’s a scare.

10b. Mississippi State: The defense is still waiting for the offense to materialize. With Georgia coming to town this weekend one of the teams is going to be 0-3 in the SEC.

12. Ole Miss: Fresno St. comes to town with a good chance to knock off a SEC team that should be 3-0 right now. I’m going to come out and say it. Getting Masoli destroyed the Ole Miss team chemistry.

South Carolina didn’t have much of a problem with Georgia. A J Green had some action on twitter where he seems to think if he was in the game SC would have gone down but we will never know will we A J.

1. Alabama: The tide rolled over Penn St with ease. So far they look unbeatable but this is the SEC. It will be interesting to see how easily they handle Duke who put up a lot of points.

2. South Carolina: SC did as I predicted and moved up to #2. This week they get Furman who had 377 yds rushing in their win over Colgate. Now if I had only listened to myself and picked SC.

3. Arkansas: Arkansas had a miss in a couple of cylinders but still managed a easy win. Visiting Georgia who is going to be desperate will show if they deserve to be ranked this high.

4. Florida: I think the offense woke up didn’t it? Tennessee will give them all they can handle. Upset Special.

5. Georgia: Aaron Murray looked good in the second half but Georgia’s defense didn’t. Expect Arkansas to put up some serious points.

6. Auburn: Auburn got a chance with Miss St. to show if they are mid SEC or not and they are. Since they are playing a ACC team they are off this week.

7. LSU: Beat Vandy 27-3. Miss St comes calling this week so expect a close game.

8. Kentucky: The offense rolled over W Ky. This week the Cats get Akron in what I think will be a scary game for Cat fans.

9. Mississippi State: Made Auburns high powered offense come down to earth in their 17-14 loss. We get a chance to see if they can do the same at LSU.

10. Tennessee: Hung with Oregon for a while but did what SEC fans expected them to do. Florida is visiting this week so we will get a chance to see how much pride the Tennessee players have.

11. Ole Miss: Vandy visits. Could this be the week Vandy returns to the winning fold.

12. Vanderbilt: They are ranked over 100 in points for and passing yards but this is Miss vs Vandy. Call it heads or tails.

Well week one is out of the way and very few questions were answered considering the ducks that were on the SEC pond. Here is this weeks rankings and the teams rank a lot better than South Carolina hotels rank. This week will provide a lot of answers and provide a good idea of who will challenge for the East.

1. Alabama: Still #1 and will get a chance to cement the ranking for a while with a win over Penn St. It will be interesting to see how Robert Bolden reacts against the Tide defense. He plays good and Penn St has a chance to win the game and the Big 10.

2. Georgia: Aaron Murray looked goodl and he will have a chance to lock up #2 when Georgia takes on SC. The Gamecocks even with the old balls coach ability to choke in big games are a 3 point favorite.

3. South Carolina: Ditto for SC they have a chance to lock up #2 Saturday if Garcia can continue his good play against the Dawgs.

4. Florida: Tell you the truth I might be ranking the Gators to high. At least the guy at Fire Steve Addazio might think so with him at the OC position.

5. Arkansas: The Hogs get another patsy so its to early to move them up even if their offense is firing on all cylinders.

6. Auburn: Auburn gets a chance with Miss St. to show if they are mid SEC or not.

7. LSU: Struggled holding a lead against a Carolina team with 13 count em 13 players suspended. They are a 10 point favorite at Vandy which ought to tell me something.

8. Kentucky: Beat the hated dirty birds but struggled in the second half. You have to wonder if Joker was just playing possum to hide plays.

9. Mississippi State: Had no problems with Memphis but get Auburn this weekend. This game will start clearing the West

10. Tennessee: Put up a lot of points and got some votes in the top 25. We get to see if they can hang with a big boy when Oregon comes calling. 12 1/2 points shows a little SEC bias in Las Vegas.

11. Ole Miss: So much for the defense keeping them ranked high. I have to wonder if playing Jeremiah Masoli so much might be causing a little tension.

12. Vanderbilt: How about 21 points against Northwestern. They are only a 9 1/2 point underdog against LSU.

Well its a little over 3 weeks till football kicks off so here is our initial pre season SEC ranking. This could be a year where the SEC champion has two loses.

Note: Tennessee’s rankings might change due to injuries, arrests or other karma related problems.

1. Alabama: Strong on offense but they lost a lot of players on defense. Until they show otherwise I’m going to rank them at the top.

2. Florida: John Brantley has a cannon for a arm and should have no problem filling in for Friar Tebow. With good play by the receivers and running backs this team could be better than in the previous two years offensively. Meetings with SC, Alabama and Georgia is going to make it hard for them to go undefeated.

3. Georgia: If Aaron Murray can ignore having never started in the SEC the Dawgs can challenge for the east. This is Georgia though so expect a loss to SC, Tennessee or Kentucky to blunt their run to the top.

4. Arkansas: The defense will hold down the offense again but they will score enough points to keep them in the hunt for best in the west.

5. Auburn: Auburn will be better this year but are still a year or so from challenging Alabama for bragging rights in the west.

6. LSU: If Miles can light a fire under the team they could be in a fight for the top. The quarterback position will keep them from the top again this year.

7. South Carolina: The talent is there to rank them higher but so to is Steve Spurrier.

8. Ole Miss: The defense will keep them ranked this high for the year. If Jeremiah Masoli and the offense jell they could move higher.

9. Kentucky: The speed is there and the playmakers are there. How high they go is going to depend on the quarterback again this year.

10. Mississippi State: They look like they are heading up but looks can be deceiving.

11. Tennessee: We keep hearing that Dooley is doing it the right way. Its going to take more than doing it the right way since its looking like karma is striving to bring them down to the bottom.

12. Vanderbilt: Vandy is Vandy.

If this was a cheerleader rankings LSU would be at the bottom.
