Why there IS actually a light at the end of the tunnel

Why there IS actually a light at the end of the tunnel, to be blunt, because the SEC train is coming.

Sorry, folks. IMHO, the credit is gone. I know that two years is not long enough to fix some things, but… This isn’t about a new coach instituting a new system. This is about the promised continuity of a Coach in Waiting. About a staff that was relatively unchanged, and schemes that were similar.

This offense is just not well prepared or well coached. Not even close. The defense, I’ll give a pass. They only gave up 24 points and 327 yards. Not ideal, but still not bad in a rivalry.

But the offense… 35 yards rushing on 32 rushes (including, of course, sacks). The play calling has been so predictably bad that I don’t think we ever surprised UL after the first screen.

BTW, what has LONG been the ole Kat’s feeling ons screens and passing?…. whenever possible, start your play on THEIR side of the line. Passes that start behind your line of scrimmage begin the play with you 3-5 farther from where you started. Sometimes necessary, but you can’t rely on them.

What did I say in my post to “The coaches”? you’ve lived too long with bad play calling being bailed out by the speed and ability of Locke, Cobb, some great (NFL) receivers. Now, those guys are gone and the tactics of your play are getting exposed by that, and you’ve failed to adjust.

Oh, but note we finally figured out we have tight ends and they were highly productive…… Who could have known?…. Who could have foreseen?

Guys, it offends me that I truly feel that some of us, myself humbly included, have a higher football acumen than these coaches. I’m not saying we’re better. I know I can’t recruit. I know I’m not inspiring like Holtz. But, I know the game. I know down and distance. I know winning requires gambling, but that winners gamble well.

What did I say before? You can pass well and win. You can pass poorly and win. You can run well, and win. But you cannot run the ball poorly and win.

Am I a bad fan for saying maybe our best option is bad season that might foment change? I’m certainly not proud for having the thought.

SEC Week 3 Rankings

Once again I have to go with LSU as #1 this week. Things can change this weekend. We could have either Alabama or Arkansas taking the top spot away from LSU.

1. LSU: Shutting down Miss St in an easy win keeps them at the top this week. Even with a win, a poor showing at W Va will give the winner of the Arkansas at Alabama game a shot at #1.

2. Alabama: Winning an intramural game against North Texas gave them a chance to play more defensive backs. That can only help them with Arkansas.

3. Arkansas: Visiting Alabama this week Arkansas will test Alabama’s defense for the first time this year.

4. Florida: Still undefeated after having little problem with Tennessee. They should have even less of a problem with a Kentucky team that drives down the field like a Yugo.

5. Mississippi State: LSU had no problem and with a WAC team that took Houston to the wire up this week, they better not look past Louisiana Tech to Georgia.

6. South Carolina: Holding on to beat Navy keeps them in the middle of the pack. Vandy comes to town this weekend in what could be an interesting game.

7. Georgia: Once again they get a win this week to keep them from following the yellow brick road to a losing season.

8. Auburn: Over rated or under rated. It depends on if you are talking about Auburn or Clemson. Auburn finally did what I’ve expected, they lost.

9. Tennessee: No running game, losing a good receiver and a mediocre defense puts them here

10. Vanderbilt: 3-0 this can’t be the Vandy we have all come to know and love. A visit to SC will let us know if they are for real.

11. Kentucky: Ugly is as ugly does and the Cats played the ugliest game I’ve ever seen them play. With a beatable Florida visiting the Cats have a chance to right the ship with a perfect game. Don’t expect perfection though, and pray not to see ugly.

12. Ole Miss: In a game of 1-2 teams Georgia visits Ole Miss in a critical game for both teams. My guess is that Ole Miss gets spanked even at home.

A lot of games have been played, but not a lot of big games yet. That is all about to change this week.
1 Oklahoma after beating a very good FSU
2 Alabama Still one of the teams to beat for the NC
3 LSU a great win over a very tough Miss St team
4 Oklahoma St. I wonder when they leave the Big-12
5 Boise St. I still think they should join a conference
6 Wisconsin Could be the Big-10 Champ
7 Texas A&M should be in the SEC-West soon
8 Stanford could be the best team in the Pac-12
9 South Carolina had a tough game against Navy
10 Florida, May be the team to beat in the East
11 Nebraska will challenge for the Big-10 or 12 or 9
12 Arkansas next week we will know more about them
13 Va Tech The ACC is getting crowded,
14 Fla St. We will know more in a few weeks.
15 Oregon Could win out.
16 West Va. We will know more in a few weeks
17 South Florida, put up 70 points WOW
18 Texas may be playing UCLA each year soon
19 Baylor may shake up the Big 12 or Big-9
20 Clemson, just broke the longest winning streak
21 Michigan, sometimes changing coaches helps
22 Geo Tech Soon we will see what they got.
23 North Carolina won because I picked against them
24 Mich St. Caught ND at a very bad time
25 TCU

This is how I read them this week, but things are always subject to change from week to week.

Bad News For Louisville

It’s been debated and examined. Pontificated upon and pronounced about.

Theory and conjecture abound about the mystical curse that has descended upon them. Some say they angered an ancient Greek god. Others, that they refused sacrifice to the violent volcano. And even more still, that their mothers dropped their program on its head at birth, and in the confusion, began to dress them upside down, taught them to walk on their hands, and speak with… Well, needless to say it’s just not their fault.

In the end… They’re just Louisville.

Cardinal Stew

While looking for recipes for Tailgate Tuesday I came upon a recipe for Cardinal Stew. And it only took the usual Cardinal 15 seconds to find it.

Cardinal Stew

1 – short spooked cardinal quarter back
5 – mediocre offensive lineman
1 – legitimate pass receiver
1 – one Kentucky want to be coach

Add a dash of slow running backs. Toss ingredients vigorously in large bowl, Bake under extreme heat for 60 minutes. Cool by fanning with large blue towel.

Throw it out.

Try again next Year

SEC Week Two Rankings

Week two is gone. I spent a little more time than usual thinking about this weeks rankings. I have to go with LSU as #1 this week.

1. LSU: The defense moved LSU to the top, at least for this week. The game at Miss St. could move them down or make Miss St 0-2 in the SEC.

2. Alabama: Allowing what I consider a mid-level Big 10 offensive team to score as many points as they did doesn’t qualify Bama for the top spot this week.

3. Arkansas: Looking forward to seeing the Hogs play Bama in two weeks. For now though Troy will pose no problem in keeping #3 locked down.

4. Florida: A make or break game against a better than expected Tennessee.

5. Mississippi State: Up this week a WAC team they better not look past to Georgia.

6. South Carolina: Ugly but winning. They have to start passing better.

7. Tennessee: Looks like the Vols might have the best QB in the SEC.

8. Georgia: Started just the way I expected. They get a win this week before its back to following the yellow brick road to a losing season.

9. Auburn: Looked much better this week but still beatable by a good defense.

10. Vanderbilt: 2-0 baby. Playing a hungry Ole Miss team will show just how improved they really are.

11. Kentucky: Another slow start. I’m going to start calling it a Kentucky Tradition. There were some bright spots and the Cat’s have a chance to polish those dull spots against Louisville in a intense rivalry game.

12. Ole Miss: With injuries and more questions at almost every position expect even less from them at Vandy.

Goody Girl Championship Potatoes

1- package dry form crab boil. (Zatarain’s)
3 pounds red potatoes
1 pound thick cut bacon, diced.
1 cup diced red onion
1/2 cup butter
1 package finely shredded Cheddar cheese
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 tbs minced garlic
Salt and Pepper
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon cayeene pepper

Fill a 6 quart pot 2/3 full of water, start boiling and add crab boil mix package. Cut the potatoes in half and slice into 3/8 pieces.
Add potatoes to pot, cook until tender.
While potatoes are boiling, in a fry pan, cook bacon until crispy, remove and drain bacon on a paper towel. Add red onion to bacon grease and cook until caramelized. Just before onions are tender, add garlic and cook until lightly brown.
In a large bowl, place butter, 1/2 the cheese, 1/2 the bacon bits, 1/2 the green onion, the cooked red onions and garlic, cayeene, paprika, salt and pepper, sour cream. Mix together.
Strain tender potatoes and add to the bowl. Let stand a minute or until cheese starts to melt. With a big spoon, start folding ingredients together gently ( try not to break up potatoes to much)
Top with remaining cheese, bacon and green onions. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.

You can find this recipe on the Food Network. Goody is a BBQ chain, the wives of the bbq team created this recipe.

SEC Week One Rankings

September 6, 2011 by

The first week of SEC football is out of the way and I don’t think anyone was really surprised with the results.

1. Alabama: The Tide did nothing to show they belong at the top of the SEC. The defense could lead them to a NC. They are that good.

2. LSU: LSU had one question for Oregon. Wheres the beef?

3. Arkansas: Anything less than a blow out this week over New Mexico would be a shocker.

4. Mississippi State: Up this week is a Auburn team that dropped out of the top 25 with a win.

5. Florida: Still my pic to win the east

6. South Carolina: Garcia won the game but Spurrier refused to give him the game ball. The odd couple at their finest.

7. Tennessee: The Vols should worry this week. The Bearcats put up 72 points and Tenn can’t run the ball.

8. Georgia: Still expecting them to start 0-2 and struggle all year.

9. Auburn: When is the last time a NC team started off at 0-2? SEC football you got to love it.

10. Vanderbilt: Off to a better start than Kentucky and Ole Miss moves Vandy to 10th.

11. Ole Miss: With injuries and more questions at almost every position expect even less from them.

12. Kentucky: The defense will continue to improve and with a win over C Mich a number 10 ranking might be in line next week. That’s a big if though. A bright spot is that the offense has no where to go but up.
