Did Orton Deliberately Screw Cal and UK? Lets look at the evidence for that happening.
1. Orton signed to play for BCG and expected to be the starting center.
2. His dad said something to the effect that “MY SON SHOULD HAVE BEEN STARTING AT CENTER THE LAST HALF OF THE SEASON HE WAS BETTER THAN THE STARTER”.
3. He skipped a lot of classes and quit attending them at all after the tournament.
4. Orton said that he was going to finish classes on-line yet when ask if he could have finished one of his classes that way a professor is supposed to have said flatly “NO”! The assignments, quizzes and tests had to be done in the classroom.
5. He flat out lied about taking classes on twitter.
He seemed to have had his mind made up early that he wasn’t being treated fairly and should have had more playing time (the playing time was there if he could have stayed out of foul trouble). He seemed to feel that he was much better than he showed on the court. If he was as good as he thinks he is you would have thought his home state Oklahoma NBA team would have taken him.
Is this enough to say he deliberately tried to screw Cal and UK by quitting classes. No! but it raises enough doubt to think about it. I’m sure that more will come out about it.
And it di..
Update: Daniel Orton just posted this on twitter according to Matt Jones at KSR.
Okay there are some things that I’ve been needing to address, but I was trying to focus my attention elsewhere. As far as the classes I want to apologize for not doing what I said I would. I messed up bigtime and hope I can be somewhat forgiven. I messed up on a few due dates on my online class and I just lost focus in school. I apologize. Then the thing about the Kansas comment. I was more so set up on that question. We all know the media and how they like to get people but i was asked was there any other school that I would have gone to. At first I said No because I loved UK and I loved my experience and my teammates there. Then he proceeded to say. I know Kansas was recruiting you hard, you never had any thoughts of maybe you should have gone there? Of course I thought that at times I won’t lie about that I’m sure atleast two Players on every college team this year question their decision but in the end I am happy that I went to UK. As far as leavin early, I cant Really justify myself there. So sorry UK fans love yall and yall are the best Ima miss it!
Now it makes me wonder if I’m being to harsh on the kid? Who knows I don’t.

USA Advances

The US had numerous shots on goal and a goal called back and kept fans on the edge of their seats for the whole game but finally scored after Clint Donovan punched one in off of a rebound in the 91th min against Algeria. The win is the first time we have won a group in 81 years and the first time we have ever won game three in group play.
Until Donovan’s goal, it appeared the officiating would again be the focus much as Maurice Edu’s late goal that was disallowed against Slovenia last week. Clint Dempsey scored in the 21st minute but the goal was called offside. Replays appeared to show Dempsey was onside. FIFA had assigned a veteran referee for this game and Donovan’s goal kept them from having more egg on their face.
Coach Bradley finally got smart and didn’t start Oguchi Onyewu who has had a hard time in the midfield while trying to get back in shape after a injury and the team responded by keeping Algeria out of the goal. On the offense side of the ball the team played very aggressive for the whole game as Donovan and Dempsey had numerous chances in the first half but either misfired or were stopped by the Algerian goalie.
Next up the group D runner up in a do or die second round game this weekend.
Demons and Middle School Shots

The United States versus England. It finally came. It finally went and as if there was any way we would forget the result, Robert Green made sure to make Saturday’s match a classic with one play.
Robert Green will deal with his personal demons and English fans after the outrageous error that cost England victory. Yet the real scrutiny will be upon England head coach Fabio Capello, for his decision to select Green in the first place.
With an experienced David James and a rising star in Joe Hart , the choice of Green surprised many, and the way he failed to handle the pressure or Clint Dempsey’s shot will only serve to focus the blame on Capello.
Our thanks go out to the mod looking shagadellic coach Fabio Capello for deciding to start Green who will be forever linked to his failure to stop a middle school goal.
John Wooden Dies

Former UCLA coach John Wooden (99) passed on in UCLA medical center. Kentucky fans will probably be remembering him most for saying he was going to retire right before the 1975 championship game as much as for anything else in his career. He was known as a great motivational speaker after he retired. Unlike when Coach Rupp retired it took UCLA years to get another good coach and rise to the top again.
First, a few reminders about John Wooden’s record:
• 10 national championships (a record)
• seven in a row (a record)
• 88 consecutive victories (a record)
• 38 straight tournament playoff wins (a record)
• four perfect seasons (a record) with only one losing year his first in 41 years of coaching.
Another chapter passes in college basketball.
