Good to see all aboard this mornin—- means no Cat died from stroke last night.
Cal~ has NOT been false advertising & tellin it like it is……. WE NEED WORK & most of the time it’s gonna look like “CHAOS” out there.
I’m not gonna type all that —– we all witnessed it & the same thing has been typed 9 million times over. KEEP IN MIND: “this is not the team you will see in March!”.
That game last night was Catastic as well as absolutely essential. Like Tone says— it’s not gonna be the last we see like that— but I ask you……..
WHAT KIND OF A TEAM IS THAT GONNA MAKE oh let’s say around Late February-March?!
1 WORD….
TESTED!
That 1st hill was a doozy was it not—- okay, show of hands—- who was brave enough to throw their hands in the air & enjoy the ride?
Think about tournament time—– what is the thing that comes to mind???
Who do you always see goin into the tournament a monster????
THE TEAM THAT BEGINS TO PEAK right around Late February that’s who…..
Would ya’ll rather see somethin like this now or a primed, oiled, tickin machine in November—- <---- Those teams usually burn my feline friends.......
This is going to be a wild wild ride for sure.
Eric tried to do way too much last night drivin & all HEY! HE'S A FRESHMAN! I don't haft to tell the majority of Cats on this board that he's gonna have a stellar OOHH AHHH performance one night & come out & just DUH the next...... WE KNOW THIS CATS!!!! REMEMBER THAT!
Defense is gonna haft to get goin----- a lotta those 3's shoulda been contested---- lost on defense..... but as I've typed before the pieces are there....it's just gonna take some time figgerin out where they go.
It's my opinion that we didn't play as poorly as the masses seem to suggest--- TO's were down ... what, 15?
The 1st half was a killer---- but our big men weren't----- they are going to haft to get down mean, nasty & play w/some fire in their belly.
Cousins---- awesome after the powwow w/Cal~ But I'm seein Magloire in this kid..... I think he played soft for worry of fouls in that 1st half. Is it just me or is there a bit of attitude there? Love to see that turned around & transformed on the court. We've got to get on the glass more----- Sure we out rebounded.... but I'd like to see a lot more. Those bigs --- need to play their size. That too will come w/time.
Ball handling needs to be comin along--- we are a way better passing team then what we seen last night.
But again.... it comes down to toughness.... And Folks they had it----
COME ON.... 18 down --- 2nd outing on the court w/youngins..... and we pull the W against a team that came into Rupp playin like a Power Big East team w/the finesse of ACC 3 point shooting. Give those kids some credit-----
I'm gonna tell ya right now--- I don't know how many top 10 woulda pulled off a W against that bunch last night........ they played phenominal. And ECC~ is right.... don't get too caught up w/Rider....... we aren't gonna see another team shoot that damn well again ....sure, they may get hot--- but that was just scary ridiculous shooting.
When the defense gets goin.... that will minimize a lot of that as well.
This was also a GET W/THE PROGRAM game--- stop believin you're unbeatable....... any team can beat any team on any given night.....I seriously hope that lesson was driven home last night.
This teams Talented, Tough & 1 Test under the belly--- WE PASSED!
ENJOY THIS RIDE..... and watch the improvements come....unlike the nightmare of 2 seasons..... I promise you WE WILL ACTUALLY SEE those improvements!
POG--- Gotta give it to Wall --- big time players make big time plays in clutch situation (and all this w/the loss of his Uncle friday night) Kid had a lot goin on last night mentally, emotionally...... and PLAYS W/HEART! -----> along side his talent— he plays w/heart and enthusiasm that we haven’t seen in YEARS! That’s awesome and will spread like wild fire…. Hell, even the Blue Hairs were wild last night…….. that fire, energy & emotion will take off w/the rest of the team….. This kid is gonna be a SENSATIONAL, FEARLESS, YOUNG FLOOR GENERAL! WOW JUST WOW.
Remember he’s human, young & will make mistakes— let’s be brave enough & confident enough to let him.
SHOW ROCKSTAR SOME LOVE THIS MORNIN—- he’s gonna come along just fine…. KUDOS DARIUS…OUTSTANDING EFFORT.
Work to be done for sure— but it’s FUN AGAIN.
I repeat ……
IT’S FUN AGAIN!
“Let them lead us where ever they want to go”

Just What These Cats Needed

What a wild ride! Most may not see the value in this game and hardly any average fans thought this type of game was possible. The very first thing you have to do is tip your hat to Miami. UK wasn’t ready for a perimeter game, and hasn’t been in any game so far, and Miami took advantage. They did a whole lot more right than just hit some shots. They laid the blue print on how to guard Wall and Bledsoe. Get back, try to keep them in front, funnel to the middle where help comes out in front of the basket or funnel to the sides. They boxed out well and limited the passes into the post, which is what UK wanted to do from the start. It seemed like the Cats all had their own things going on and no one was working together. That was especially true on D. I know I’ve been on Bledsoe about his defense but it was on full display last night. He just doesn’t want to play weak side defense and that is just as important, if not more important than on the ball D. The ball reverses, Bledsoe gets sucked into the lane, and in one case all the way across the lane, his man is free to roam to an open spot, the ball reverses to his guy, he’s no where to be found and a forward is stuck with two guys, his guy being the hot hand. This team wasn’t killing UK in the lane and the post simply didn’t need his help. This has to stop and now. BUT, there was a lot of good in this game. UK was seriously on the ropes. Dodson came in and provided good shooting and decent defense and UK began to cut into the lead. The guys started playing more together and started limiting the open looks. I had hoped to cut the lead to eight by the half and they did even better than that. But UK continued to do one good thing, then one bad thing the rest of the game. I again have to give Miami credit for not going away. They fought and took advantage of almost every UK mistake. I seriously question coach’s choice down the stretch and think he needs to do a much better job of understanding the personnel on the floor versus what he has on the bench. This has always been the knock on Cal and it was on full display last night. UK has the ball and a two point lead. Miami is going to foul, UK will get two shots and UK needs both of them. Wall is an all but automatic 1 for 2 at this point. Krebs is in his pocket and coach doesn’t pull him out. Krebs is a much better percentage at getting both free throws and if he gets one for 2, you put Wall back in. Krebs hits both shots and the game is over, and lets face it, UK was darned lucky to hit the shot and even more lucky they didn’t call a foul on Wall, which three free throws wins the game for Miami. I don’t think we will see the same team Thursday. I think we see a more timid team. We will see a team willing to jab and spar some instead of going for the knockout with one punch right out of the gate. Wall and Bledsoe swung wildly at nothing for a good part of the game. Much of that is our fault for thinking, and making them believe, they could over talent anyone. They also have to learn what they can and can not do at this level, and even higher than last night. I’ve been uneasy from the get go with having so much inexperience on the floor at one time. We’ll simply have to live with a lot of up and down play, and this team will probably lose to some lesser teams, and that’s OK. Wall seems to learn fast and the first thing he will learn is he will need help to be able to do the things he’s used to doing. He’ll learn that teams are going to try to take away his path to the rim and he’ll need to counter to make them pay. THEN the rim will be there. And as for Big Cuz, he gets my MVP award because he seemed to grow up right before our eyes last night. He was stellar, aside from his one late bone head, which turned out not to cost UK and may have helped use enough clock to shorten the game enough to get UK the last shot.
All in all, I think this was just what these Cats needed. Oh, and they got the win..

Happy Veterans Day

Another Veterans Day has come and men and women are still deployed to places totally foreign to their beliefs to defend American freedom. The loss of one man or woman who is willing to fight to defend our freedom is a steep price but these men and women are willing to pay that price. They are what secure our freedom to live and worship as we choose not drooling politicians who might once have been like them but now are like a bad smell in the outhouse you cant flush away.
Patrick Henry once said give me freedom or give me death. I say give me one illegal immigrant, one gay man or woman, one poor boy from the mountains, one poorly educated boy, one well educated girl who understand that without paying the price freedom in America wont endure.
BBR’s Weekly SEC Rankings

How do you decide who’s number 1 in the SEC. Its really not to difficult. I look at who they play, how many points they score and how many points they give up. This week the the same two teams are sitting at the top of the SEC again like a bad hair piece. Thankfully Alabama has played a tougher schedule so they claim the top spot because neither is a point scoring machine this year.
1. Alabama: After clinching the Western Division title and a trip to Atlanta to face Florida in the SEC championship game with their win over LSU. Alabama travels to Mississippi St this weekend for a game that could go either way.
2. Florida: Florida won over a feisty Vanderbilt, This weekend its off to tweak the old balls coach.
3. LSU: Alabama banged up the Tigers in the loss. With Louisiana Tech at home this weekend the Tigers will feast injuries or not.
4. Tennessee: An easy win over Memphis showed that Memphis isn’t read to move to a better conference. Ole Miss will be harder to handle but should be a winnable game.
5. Auburn: Furman was the sacrificial goat last weekend. Can Auburn get their 8th win at Georgia this weekend. This game could go either way.
6. Georgia: They beat up on Tennessee Tech last week, and next up is a home game with Auburn. Which Auburn team shows up will determine who wins this game.
7. Ole Miss: A win against Tennessee this weekend and they stand a chance of playing in a good bowl. A loss to the surging Vols and its a down turn is a once promising season.
8. Arkansas: After a quick baking of the gamecocks the hoge look to become bowl eligible this weekend against Troy.
9. South Carolina: Getting thumped by Arkansas raised the Old Balls Coaches blood pressure. With Florida coming to town could this be his last chance to get a meaningful win before he faids into retirement.
10. Mississippi State: After a week off Alabama comes to town. Look for this to be a better than advertised game.
11. Kentucky: After beating EKU in a break from SEC play Kentucky travels to Vanderbilt with a chance to become bowl eligible with a win. The Cats better come prepared to play against a desperate Vandy team.
12. Vanderbilt: How do you go from 4-4 in the SEC East to 0-6 in a year. Don’t score more than 10 points a game in the SEC. Vandy has its last opportunity to get a win this weekend when Kentucky comes to town. Beating Tennessee is out of the question in their last game.

Assignment: Define Success.
November 9, 2009 by MsCats
SUCCESS:
1. the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors.
2. the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.
3. a successful performance or achievement: The play was an instant success.
4. a person or thing that is successful

Not to be confused w/Expectations.
Expectations:
1. the act or the state of expecting: to wait in expectation.
2. the act or state of looking forward or anticipating.
3. an expectant mental attitude: a high pitch of expectation.
4. something expected; a thing looked forward to.
5. Often, expectations. a prospect of future good or profit: to have great expectations.
6. the degree of probability that something will occur: There is little expectation that he will come.
Clearly, expectations can be weaved right into the oh so tempting but deadly web of Hope.
We all know what the Media thinks– we define Success only in terms of a National Championship. WRONG! Most of those analysts, guru’s & know it all’s must have been sleepin through English Class & have chosen to take the easy route by labeling & writing w/o all the facts.
Myth:
KY FANS DEFINE SUCCESS as winning a National Title every single season.
Fact: We measure our SUCCESS on how we compete every season. Here in lay’s the expectation….. for, our definition of compete is a lot of different than — oh let’s say Towson’s. You know what I mean & if I haft to explain well… Go Copy off Hubert Davis when you take your quiz.
So exactly what would a Successful Season entail for the Mega-Talented Cats. A smart Cat knows there are no WRONG ANSWERS to that question but at the same time it delivers a lot of debate & when it’s at its best is HEATED– which is one of the things that makes us HATED BY MANY, REVERED BY THE KNOWLEDGEABLE & ADMIRED BY MOST.
So….. Here is what I’m grading on for a SUCCESSFUL SEASON.
1st off: We’re on our way, the effort is showing great promise of doing exactly what a TOP 10 team is supposed to do—- OBLITERATE CUPCAKES! These games are nothin but glorified practices and as we learn, we are also forcing our opponents to STAND UP & RECOGNIZE. I HEAR THUNDER!!! — now We’ll Wait for Late January to bring the Lightning that will announce the coming Storm that will REIGN down through March! Success always has a beginning….
2. Carolina goes down & we beat them to 2000….. No fret Cats— this will be a WAR, but I’m tellin you right here, right now, tackling them early on & in RUPP— this is the YEAR & WE WILL PREVAIL!
3. Which brings me to UofJail. This almost by itself has the power to make or break a SUCCESSFUL SEASON. As bad as I hate to admit that, it’s true.
W/that said— YES LOSERVILLE MUST BE BEAT!! BADLY—is most preferred. (:
4. You know, it does NO justice for the SEC Conference (as a whole) when KY is down. Like it or not, our conference relies on us to be BIGGER THAN LIFE & WIN, WIN BIG. Let’s face it when the Media looks to the SEC, all eyes are on Lexington.
It’s time to TAKE BACK OUR KINGDOM!!
SEC outright CHAMPIONSHIP & A solid SEC TOURNAMENT RUN is a MUST.
5. Sweet 16 in the Dance. (Remember this is SUCCESS, not EXPECTATIONS)
I really don’t think that’s asking a whole lot but at the same time I challenge them to meet and/or exceed these goals. Rupp forbid, if it doesn’t happen…. Well, I STILL LOVE MY CATS & ALWAYS WILL.
One thing you can rest assure— WE WILL COMPETE & IT WILL BE FUN! Really, you can’t ask for much more– but this isn’t Towson now is it?! (: (Sorry Towson, you’re my whippin boy this week— deal!)
Let’s tap “DANCE” right into that tempting web of Hope & Expectations for a spell.
I EXPECT TO RULE THE SEC
I EXPECT TO GET NO LESS THAN A 3 SEED IN THE DANCE
I EXPECT A FINAL FOUR APPEARANCE.
I HOPE & PRAY FOR A SHOT AT THE NATIONAL TITLE.
Hey, the Yankees just broke in their NEW HOME under a NEW KING—- WHY CAN’T WE TAKE BACK OUR HOME & TITLE W/THE NEW KING OF THE BLUEGRASS.
There’s a big difference between those 2 isn’t there. Funny thing is… the Media discredits us by using our hopes against us which blinds college bb to the greatest gift KY FANS offer— KNOWLEDGE of the game.
Things to watch for this season:
Cal weaving his magic in getting our Freshman to gel w/our veterans. This is not going to be an easy spell to cast. THERE IS NO I in TEAM & making KIDS not only comprehend that BUT BELIEVE IN IT is a CHALLENGE. If this doesn’t happen, we’ll never see what this team is truly capable of… Oh sure, it would probably be a successful season but just THINK OF THE POTENTIAL of this team as 1—– LOL Skeery HUH! (:
Patterson learning his new position & getting more touches on the ball. This will come w/time, I’m sure.
Wall & Bledsoe rippin defenses to shreds! YIKES! Dare I say we possibly have the BEST backcourt in the nation…. I’m a watchin for it, how bout you?!
Witnessing this team of Boys become MEN on the Court!
Agree or not: these are my standards & I’m stickin to em…. course I’ve been known to grade on the “Billy Curve.”
Now it’s your turn!
Assignment Define Success. No copying! I’m watching you! You have 1 week so get on it!

The real wizard

It’s been a good week for the Cats. Men’s soccer clinched a post-season berth with a win Wednesday over SMU behind senior Tim Crone’s goal in the second half. It was his 3rd career goal all against SMU. His other two goals came in a 2-1 victory over #1 SMU in 2007.
The #11 womens volleyball team showed they are deserving of a top 10 ranking by defeating Alabama Friday night. The lady Cats (23-2, 13-1) got their 50th win at Memorial Coliseum in the last four years with the win.
Men’s basketball routed Clarion 117-52 with John Wall scoring 27 in his first game for the Cats. DeMarcus Cousins had 20 points, Patrick Patterson scored 14 and Ramon Harris, Darnell Dodson and Darius Miller had 11 points. It was a clean well played game with excellent play by everyone who touched a ball.
The football Cats won on Saturday with a 37-12 thumping of Eastern Kentucky behind two second half touchdown passes by Morgan Newton and all around good play by the team.
So what did we learn this week? In football Morgan Newton, LaRod King and Chris Matthews are going to be great next year. Donald Russell is probably going to see more playing time after his 79 yard run for a TD.
In volleyball the lady Cats can go deep in the NCAA tournament and with a little scheduling luck bring home a championship.
In mens soccer we learned that SMU probably looks forward to Tim Crone graduating.
In basketball we learned that the real wizard isn’t the the pretender from Westwood nor is he the fine dining coach from Louisville or the blue collar earth wizard from Michigan. He’s certainly not the dripping wizard from Tennessee who’s only claim to wizardry is his ability to cast a spell on the color orange or the cave dwelling wand waver from Connecticut. And lets not get started on the kettle stirring witches from Carolina or the seller of love potions from Kansas.
The real wizard is the Wizard of Lexington. The Wizard of Lexington is not just a wizard in coaching and recruiting. He’s also a wizard in the way he cast a spell that brought back our ability to laugh and enjoy ourselves during a basketball game.
Changing of the Guard
I, like many of you, remember a time when we only had three channels to watch and the TVs were black and white. And each night that we turned that huge box on, we were throughly entertained. Seriously, does it get any better than Andy Griffith or the Honeymooners? Today, we have 900 channels of HD crap and can usually expect to not find anything on worth watching unless, of course, Andy Griffith or the Honeymooners happen to be on. Yes, I am exaggerating a little here but you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The same goes for the media today. I remember a time when news outlets had to tell the truth and provide sources to back up those facts. Certainly, the media has always shaded things, but at least you knew there was some sort of goal toward providing the bad so we could make educated changes for the good. Our news sources were limited and those sources knew they had a captive audience. Fast forward to today, and its just like TV. We have 900 outlets of HD crap. When I hear the term, “un-named source” why don’t they simply say, “Rumor”? But the issue here is intent.
Jerry Tipton: It’s my opinion that he is the most vile “writer” ever. His obvious disdain for UK wreaks in every word he writes. Now, we find out, that he is resorting to lies. Just in the past two weeks he tried to paint Patrick Patterson, who may well be the best thing that has happened to UK since Rupp, as a cheater by insinuating, without knowing, that Patterson was driving a “new” truck. I’ll be honest in saying I did not read the article and my facts here are second hand, but I think all of you know this to be accurate. He has also quoted fictitious NCAA rules in saying UK should report fans for chanting names of players. The rule doesn’t exist and he even made up the code number. The fact is, UK can not advertise recruiting visits or stage anything that would be outside of a normal student athletes day on campus. They are not charged with isolating recruits from fan adoration. Fans bring signs of players to games and UK can not police fans from bringing signs of recruits to games when they visit. Why does he do this? To me, it is obviously to degrade UK any way he can. I don’t know why UK still issues him a media pass, but they do.
Local media in general: They still, for some reason, operate as if they have a monopoly when they obviously do not. It seems that both the Courier and the Lexington Herald Leader feel that their online content is worth paying for directly beyond the numerous pop up ads. Their sites are both turtle slow and their news is now well past prime when it finally comes out. Both are having deep financial trouble as I understand it, and its easy to see why. The consumer based market has always operated on the principle that customers will buy your product if it is what they want. No one wants what these two papers are putting out as far as sporting news and they can’t seem to grasp that. I will do a back flip the day that Tipton writes his final piece.
Blogs: So what do we resort to if the local papers can’t provide us what we want? Blogs!! Fan-run sites that get the news and give it to us each and every second. The two I will focus on are sites run by Mark Maggard and Matt Jones. The goal of these type sites is to provide information from a fan’s prospective and both do that. These two have also had a major war over fan support. Most of you reading this probably visit one or the other but not both since this war has taken place. Why the war? On one side, it was suppose to be about money. Mark runs a site with premium content. Matt’s site has operated on the premise that news is free and shouldn’t be charged for and has used that for his attack on Mark. And the fans? They rushed like little soldiers ants to defend their generals which I thought was hilarious. The problem today is, Matt is now stepping up to do premium content for Coachcal.com. Granted, I have no problem with anyone who pays at a site or who provides, “premium content” for a site. But in Matt’s case, he has bolstered his own following on the premise that he was totally against pay sites. He drew the line, not us. So it seems that his main goal is to step up in the “media world” and he doesn’t mind stepping on his little soldier ants to do it. Two faced? Yes, in my book. As further proof keep in mind that he also operates by having his little soldiers find any and all news links that he then takes for his own on his site. He does that, again, under the premise that information is free. But just last week he was upset because a National outlet borrowed from him. Never mind the fact that it was content he had borrowed from someone else! But he is a lawyer so no one should be surprised. What he risks, however, is his ability to provide recruiting in-site as he does today. Reading back to the NCAA rules, fans can talk about and post information on recruiters which is borderline when it comes to Matt’s and Mark’s site. Anyone affiliated with the university, which would be the case if Matt provides content at Coachcal.com, cannot.
So what is the solution? How about a whole lot more of Larry Vaught. You can find his blog at: http://vaughtsviews.com. Larry is both a certified journalist AND a fan. He is the absolute best of both worlds. Yes, we want to know the bad stuff, only so we can demand it be fixed. But we also want the good and there is a ton of good every day when kids go to school, play sports, and become better adults for it. The Courier and LHL need to pay real close attention to Vaught. They could certainly take back their share if they provided content on a moments notice in the form similar to Vaught.

Fellow Cats a CAT FAN was born again last night & I have been put on notice—-
“Mommy, you’re not goin to another game w/o ME!” Me’s so proud!!!
Last night was HER night & it took everything in me to keep from sayin— Shush, let me watch this game in peace w/o all the d*mned question….. (we had basketball 101 last night). <---- That's okay, how else is she gonna learn.
Boy it was bad fer a time----- cheered like the Coach w/No Name coached--- LMAO she was screamin Defense when we're on offense ---- I got that straightened out QUICK FAST & IN A HURRY! Wanted to know all the players----- Her favorite is PSquared and she's lovin Bledsoe. Not bad taste huh! When Coach Cal came out --- Top of her lungs ---- LOOK MOMMY IT'S COACH CAL!!! (: She was a real section pleaser!
Still diggin on the seats---- and the feller that has them is gonna give me 1st dibs on em for any games he can't make --- there's 4 of em so keep a weather eye out CATS.... last minute on that kinda stuff, ya know.
Now on to what ya'll wanna hear:
I haven't had time to read Boo's write-up....that's what I was gonna do for my piece this week but since he beat me to the draw...... I'll just give my thoughts right cheer! (:
OUR TALENT is masking our ball handling skills or lack thereof----- it's okay, I think a lot of that will be diminishing as they learn the DDMO. We shoulda been on the glass more --- our bigs got lazy for lack of a better word---- So overall, I think what we witnessed there was something Coach Cal~ will haft to address in that good ol fashioned class of Maintaining a HUGE lead---- they slacked off is what it looked like to me. Man o Man--- we're gonna be super wicked nasty in the back court when Wall joys Bledsoe--- I expect to see better ball distribution then as well. Glimpses of greatness is cause & effect w/this squad when one gets on it... it is actually motivating the rest --- I CAN DO THIS! ----> something we haven’t seen in a long long time. THEY HAD FUN!
COUSINS worries me—– no, not that bad…. but did we just get a preview of HABITUAL FOUL TROUBLE…. he’s gonna haft to get that gargantuan size of his under control. We’re gonna be BEAST in the paint—-> THAT’S OUR TERRITORY & TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT!
DODSON—> where are the critics now?! And dare I say…. he’s got the maturity and leadership skills to Co-Captain, if you will, along side of Pat…… Mr. Cool Calm & Confident he is…..
Liggins has disappeared—- The Kool One and I discussed this briefly and I can’t help but wonder if it’s attitude or lazy work ethic—- the jury is out. I hate this for him & my cat senses find it hard not to blame that Coach w/no Name.
Gotta get the lanes cleared ——
Overall…… B- with an A in effort and that is for the hustle after the ball and you can actually see these Guys learning—– it’s gonna take a group effort and that includes us gettin behind them. Ya know 23 TO’s is a scandalous affair to be sure, but what I seen w/those TO’s wasn’t stupidity—but learning & catching themselves…. Harrellson for instance…… pointing at his chest…. as in “OH SH*T, yeah that was me & Yeah, I know what I did.” SUCCESS through Trial & Error will be our’s. Lots of work to be done between now & Carolina. Our ranking might be a lil high right now— but I’m not fussin bout it.
BECAUSE IT’S THERE—- JUST HASN’T ALL COME TOGETHER JUST YET.
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT————
IT’S GONNA & THAT’S THE FACTS JACK!
